Information on the new Renters Rights Act 2026

From 1 May 2026, tenants will get new rights under the Renters Rights Act 2026. There will also be new rules for private landlords.

The new Act brings a fundamental change to landlord and tenancy law. It's the largest change since the Housing Act 1988.

The government is helping landlords and tenants to prepare for these changes. Renters will receive information from their landlord, or landlord's agent, by 31 May.
