Become a lifeguard

Are you ready to make a splash and become a certified lifeguard? Our upcoming National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is your ticket to a role in water safety.

Course requirements

All candidates must meet the following criteria before starting the course:

  • be 16+ years of age on the date of assessment
  • jump / dive into deep water
  • swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
  • swim 100 metres continuously on front and 100 metres back
  • in deep water, tread water for 30 seconds
  • surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • climb out of the pool unaided without using a ladder / steps where the pool design permits

Monday 25 March – 9am - 5:15pm
Tuesday 26 March – 9am - 5:15pm
Wednesday 27 March – 9am - 5:15pm
Thursday 28 March – 9am - 5:15pm
Saturday 30 March – 9am - 5:15pm
NPLQ Exam Tuesday 2 April – 9am - 4pm

Swim Tests

Before diving into the NPLQ course, candidates are required to pass swim tests. These tests will take place at various Wakefield Council venues during the week before the course. Further information will be sent via email once you've successfully secured your place.
