Background information
Moorthorpe Primary School is a maintained community primary school and currently admits pupils aged 3 to 11.
From September 2021, an integrated resource provision was created to provide up to 16 places for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Wakefield Council, with the support of the Full Governing Board, proposed to establish a new SEN Unit at Moorthorpe Primary School on a permanent basis from September 2025 which will provide 14 places specifically for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
On Wednesday 12 March 2025, a delegated decision was made by the Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People which approved the publishing of a Statutory Notice in accordance with The Schools Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools – England) Regulations 2013, and subject to no negative and / or opposing representations being received during the Statutory Notice period, to implement establishing a new SEN Unit at Moorthorpe Primary School.

What decision was made?
The Statutory Notice was published on Thursday 27 March 2025 and ended on Wednesday 23 April 2025 at 5pm. During that time, no negative and / or opposing representations were received. In line with the delegated decision of 12 March 2025, the establishment of a new SEN Unit at Moorthorpe Primary School will be implemented from 1 September 2025.
