The Proposal

We plan to set up a new SEN Unit at Streethouse Junior, Infant and Nursery School from September 2026. This unit will offer 12 places for children who have an EHCP with complex, co-occurring needs, typically severe to profound across cognition / communication, health or physical needs, sensory processing and / or behaviour, whose needs require a highly personalised, multi-disciplinary education and care offer. It will help Wakefield Council meet its statutory duties.

Council’s Cabinet Decision

The Council’s Cabinet reviewed and approved the proposal for the new SEN Unit at Streethouse Junior, Infant and Nursery School. They considered feedback from the consultation and made recommendations on the next steps. They approved publishing the Statutory Notice, which outlines the proposed change. You can view the delegated decision register on the Council website.

Submitting Comments on the Proposal

The Statutory Notice will be displayed at school entrances, public buildings, and in the Pontefract and Castleford Express starting 15 January 2026. It will also be available online at Wakefield Council. A 4-week representation period will end at 5pm on 11 February 2026.
