Create a business continuity plan

We encourage businesses and voluntary organisation in the district to plan for emergencies.

Business continuity means having a plan to keep your business running if something big goes wrong. These plans show how you can carry on with “business as usual” during a major incident. The process looks at the most important jobs in your organisation and how they can keep going.

Ask yourself the following:

  • how long could we manage if the power went out or phones stopped working?
  • what if something stopped us from delivering to an important customer?
  • how would a big incident affect staff morale?
  • what if serious damage happened to our building?

Business continuity planning may include making backup plans for sudden loss of:

  • workplaces
  • staff and skills
  • suppliers and partners
  • special equipment
  • technology and communications
  • data and information
  • utilities

Please note your organisation may have other risks.

Planning ahead, instead of waiting for an emergency, helps you get back to normal faster.

Good planning can:

  • reduce money loss
  • protect your reputation
  • boost staff confidence
  • avoid bad publicity
