Who is the AFC?

Cllr Josie Pritchard is a dedicated Armed Forces Champion for the Wakefield District.
She is committed to supporting serving military personnel, both Regular and Reserve. She helps Veterans, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and their families.
What does the AFC do?
Josie has a clear understanding of challenges faced by those who serve and have served.
She is able to signpost individuals to relevant support. She helps to unblock problems with accessing services. This can include employment, housing, healthcare, and community support.
Josie advocates for the Armed Forces Covenant. She strengthens the bond between service members and civilian society. She champions initiatives that recognise their contributions and sacrifices.
Through unwavering dedication Josie helps bridge the transition between military and civilian life. This is to make sure that those who serve, or have served, receive the respect and opportunities they deserve.

Who is the AFCO?
Julie Dawes is the Armed Forces Covenant Officer for the Wakefield District.
What does the AFCO do?
The role is to make sure that Wakefield Council complies with requirements of the Armed Forces Covenant, across all areas of policy making.
It is to raise the profile and needs of the Armed Forces community. This includes serving personnel (both regular and reserve), their families, veterans, and cadets within the Wakefield District.
The role involves working with the Regional Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) to engage with key local businesses.
This is to promote the following:
- the Armed Forces Covenant
- the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme
- the employment of reservists
- the appointment of Cadet Forces Adult volunteers within the Wakefield district
