Who is the AFC?

Cllr Wayne Beddoes is proud to serve as the Armed Forces Champion for the Wakefield district.

He has over 35 years of military experience across the infantry and combat engineers.  As well as a Councillor, he is currently an Army Reservist and full-time tutor.

What does the AFC do?

As the AFC, Wayne is committed to upholding the Armed Forces Covenant. He works to make sure that serving personnel, veterans, and their families, are treated fairly. Without disadvantage.

He is able to use his military background to strengthen the Armed Forces community. As well as supporting residents and driving positive, community-led change across the district.

Armed Forces Covenant Officer (AFCO)

Who is the AFCO?

Julie Dawes is the Armed Forces Covenant Officer for the Wakefield District.

What does the AFCO do?

The AFCO makes sure that Wakefield Council complies with the Armed Forces Covenant, across all areas of policy making.  

They raise awareness of the Armed Forces community and their needs, including:

  • serving personnel (regular and reserve)
  • their families
  • veterans
  • cadets

They also work with the Regional Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) (RFCA) to connect with key local businesses, to promote.
