Better Homes - Agbrigg

As part of Wakefield Council’s ongoing commitment to ensuring all homes in our District are sustainable, affordable, and healthy to live in, we will be expanding on the success of our work in College Grove and Primrose Hill to improve the lives of those living in the Agbrigg area.

Our Better Homes project is an area focussed improvement scheme and covers the area shown on the map.

Our Housing Officers will be carrying out checks on privately rented properties, including houses in multiple occupation, in the Agbrigg area over the coming months. These checks will include identifying poor housing conditions, problems including damp, mould, missing handrails, faulty electrics, leaks, and poor kitchen facilities.

For tenants this is an ideal opportunity to express any concerns you might have about living in your home. Our Housing Officers will be able to answer any question you may have regarding the project and signpost you to any relevant support services which may include energy efficiency and money and debt advice.

For property owners this is a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with housing related legislation and regulation to ensure that your property is safe and legally compliant.

Houses in Multiple Occupation

A house in multiple occupation is one with 3 or more tenants in two or more households sharing facilities such as bathrooms or kitchens.

If your property is a house in multiple occupation (HMO), occupied by 5 or more people, in 2 or more households you must hold a relevant HMO licence. Please see this webpage for information on how to licence an HMO.

The Better Homes Agbrigg project began in February 2023 and is anticipated to last 18-24 months. It has a number of themes the first of which will focus on rented properties. Other themes include advice and support for owner occupiers.

If you live in, or own, a privately rented property in Agbrigg you can also contact us for advice on any housing issues or concerns using the same contact details below.
