Gambling rules in Wakefield

Wakefield Council helps make sure gambling is safe and fair in our area. This is part of a law called the Gambling Act 2005.

The law says the Council must write down how it plans to follow the rules. This is called a “statement of principles.”

There are three main goals in the law:

  • stop crime - gambling must not be used for crime or cause trouble
  • be fair - gambling should be honest and clear
  • protect people - children and people who might be easily harmed must be kept safe from gambling

The Council has written a new plan for how it will follow these rules from 2026 to 2028. We haven’t changed much, except we’ve updated figures and contact details.

We’d like to know what you think about this plan. If you want to share your thoughts, please email us at: licensingoffice@wakefield.gov.uk.

The last day to send your comments is 12 November 2025.
