Monday 10 March marked Commonwealth Day, hosted by Armed Forces Champion Councillor Josie Pritchard at the Wakefield War Memorial.
The service was led by Reverend Canon Dr Erik Peeters who gave thanks to the five million Servicemen and Women from Commonwealth member countries who volunteered to fight in World War I and World War II.
Cllr Josie Pritchard, Armed Forces Champion, said: “It was an honour to host our Commonwealth Day service for our district.
“We must never forget the contribution and sacrifices made from the brave servicemen and servicewomen from across our Commonwealth during the World Wars and subsequent conflicts.”
The day is observed by the 56 member countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific & Europe.
