Wakefield’s Young Traders Market returns to Castleford

Tuesday, August 05, 2025

Castleford Indoor Market will be buzzing with fresh ideas and entrepreneurial energy on Saturday 16 August, as the Young Traders Market returns to showcase the district’s rising business stars.

As part of the Council’s Summer FunFest, the event invites residents to explore a vibrant mix of handmade goods, artisan food, and creative products, all brought to life by young entrepreneurs from across the district.

“Our local markets are more than just places to shop, they’re spaces where communities connect and new ideas take root.

“Through Summer FunFest, we’re creating exciting opportunities for people to come together, support local talent, and enjoy everything our town centres have to offer. We want more people to spend more of their money with our amazing local businesses.

“The Young Traders Market is a brilliant example of how we’re investing in the future of our high streets by helping to boost footfall and giving young entrepreneurs a platform to shine.”

Running from 10am to 4pm, the event will feature a wide range of stalls from young traders aged 16-30, offering everything from handmade crafts and skincare to sweet treats, fashion, and home décor. The market will run alongside Castleford’s regular traders, giving visitors a diverse and exciting shopping experience under one roof.

This is the third Young Traders Market this year, following two hugely popular events in Castleford and Pontefract earlier in the summer.

It supports the Council’s wider commitment to revitalising high streets, creating better jobs, and helping local businesses thrive. Which includes providing over £1 million of funding to help businesses improve their shops and increase security.

It’s also an additional opportunity to celebrate local talent, support independent businesses, and showcase the creativity and ambition of the district’s next generation of traders.

The event is part of Wakefield Council’s Summer FunFest, a programme of free, family-friendly events designed to support local businesses, boost footfall, and bring communities together.
