Wakefield Exchange goes prehistoric this May half term
Tuesday, May 06, 2025
Wakefield Exchange (WX) will become a dino-packed playground bursting with adventure and creativity with lots of free family fun for all ages from Saturday 24 May to Sunday 1 June.
“We know that families are always looking for fun, free things to do during the school holidays so why not come along to WX.
“There’s going to be lots of different dinosaur-themed events and activities to get involved in throughout the week and there really is something for all ages to enjoy.”
Cllr Hannah Appleyard
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport

At WX, families can explore a world where giant dinosaurs roam, with photo opportunities around every corner.
Children will enjoy hands-on activities such as self-led dinosaur colouring sessions and craft workshops, while adults can kick back and enjoy delicious offerings from the street food vendors on-site.
For little ones, an early year’s sensory den and jungle jeep adventure zone provides a safe and playful environment filled with light and sensory toys.
Daily family film screenings will take place at 2pm each day, with the lineup including family favourites such as Ice Age, The Land Before Time, The Good Dinosaur, The Flintstones, Dinosaur, and The Croods.
Adding to the fun, there will be a host of activities from free mini golf to face painting across the week.
And several special events will bring even more fun to the festivities:
- On Thursday 29 May, families can dance the afternoon away at the free Kids Fancy Dress Dino Disco from 4pm to 6pm.
- For younger dino-fans, the Toddler Disco – Raptor Rave will be held on Friday 30 May from 9:30am to 11:30am.
- Adults are also expected to join in the prehistoric fun. Stretch It Like A T-Rex, a jungle-themed Pilates session, takes place on Wednesday 28 May from 9am to 10am and is available by booking in advance. To top it all off, a special evening screening of Godzilla will take place on Saturday 31 May from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
With a full week of exciting activities, immersive experiences, and dino-sized fun, WXcavation promises to be Wakefield’s ultimate half-term adventure for families.
