Wakefield Council encourages taxi drivers to submit historic licensing claims

Tuesday, July 15, 2025

Wakefield Council is encouraging those eligible to come forward with historic taxi licensing claims before the deadline of 30 September 2025.

The claims relate to how the Council previously included enforcement costs in vehicle licensing fees rather than in driver licence fees. People who held Private Hire Vehicle & Hackney Carriage Vehicle licences between April 2004 and December 2018 may have a claim.

“I would encourage anyone who is eligible to claim to come forward as soon as possible, as the deadline is fast approaching.

“We are working hard to assess and pay out any claims as quickly as we can.”

Cllr Daniel Wilton

Cabinet Member for Communities

Cllr Daniel Wilton

Anybody who thinks they have a claim, and who hasn’t already submitted one via John Donkin Solicitors, should get in touch with the Council at taxiclaim@Wakefield.gov.uk

If a claim has already been submitted, no further action is required. No claims will be accepted after the deadline of 30 September 2025.

The Council will also be proactively contacting people who it has contact details for over the summer and working with relevant local trade associations to raise awareness of the scheme and associated deadlines.
