Wakefield Armed Forces Day

Wakefield Armed Forces Day is fast approaching as it returns to Pontefract Park on Sunday 6 July 2025. 

The free and family friendly event is from 10am - 4.30pm and offers a packed programme that celebrates the contribution of serving and veteran members of the armed forces and the wider armed forces community.    

***Please be aware of changes to the Blue Badge Parking for Armed Forces Day. The racecourse crossing – which gives access to the park’s main car park – is temporarily closed for repairs. Alternative Blue Badge parking is available as part of the main event car park. Please follow signs to “Main Event Parking” and you will be guided to the area closest to the event site. The park’s separate pedestrian crossing point is open as usual.***

Cllr Josie Pritchard, Wakefield Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Wakefield Armed Forces Day is not far away now, and everyone is working hard behind the scenes to make the event bigger and better than ever this year.

“It will be a fun packed and free day out for all the family to enjoy. And, most importantly, it gives people an opportunity to show their support for the Armed Forces and the outstanding work they do for our country.”

Visit the main Arena for dance performances, live music from military bands and local orchestras before the Free Fall Parachute Display.
 
Take a walk around the Military Village where you’ll find local military organisations including the Royal British Legion, 5 Towns Veterans Support Hub and Royal Air Force Association, who will be showcasing military vehicles, weapons and much more. 

Don’t miss Cadet Corner where you can try your hand at archery among other activities with the Royal Air Forces Cadets and Army Cadets. 

For lunch, have a walk around the Food & Drink Zone where there will be an array of street vendors offering pizza, ice creams, coffee and much more. 

If the weather is warm people are advised to bring drinks, shade, sunscreen and hats. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome.   
As this is a popular event, people are urged, if possible, to car share, use public transport or walk, as the roads and car parks will be very busy.
