Unlock your potential with a Wakefield Adult Education course

Wednesday, August 06, 2025

Wakefield Council’s new Adult Education guide is out now, with a wide range of vocational and non-vocational courses starting in autumn 2025.

Classes are available for people to improve their essential numeracy, literacy and digital skills, boost their employment prospects, study for a recognised professional qualification, or explore their creative interests.

“It’s never too late and you’re never too old to learn!

“There are lots of great opportunities on offer. But, if you’re not sure what’s right for you, come to one of our Welcome to Learning events and our friendly team will help find the course that suits you best.

“In 2023/2024, over 98% of our learners who were on accredited courses passed their qualification.

“So, why not make this year the one to achieve your own personal goal or try something new!”

Many of the courses in the September guide are free of charge.  Anyone looking for work or earning less than £25,750 per year is eligible to free courses, even where fees apply.

The smaller class sizes provide a friendly and encouraging environment where learners can thrive.  And the dedicated Learning Support team is available to assist anyone with additional needs throughout their course.

Ofsted awarded Wakefield’s Adult Education service an overall ‘Good’ rating earlier this year.  It recognised the positive way that the service supports learners with their personal development.  Assessing both personal development and the behaviour and attitudes of learners and staff as ‘Outstanding.’  The report also commended the “nurturing and inclusive environment” provided to learners.

A wide range of free online courses is also available for those wanting to learn in their own time, on a laptop or computer at home.  They include courses in subject areas such as business skills, children and young people, health and social care, mental health and special educational needs. With over 40 of them leading to nationally recognised Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications.

Wakefield is proud to be a UNESCO Global Learning City and is committed to improving opportunities for all residents through lifelong learning. Helping people to grow in confidence, develop their skills, improve their employment opportunities, meet new people and live healthy, independent lives.
