Thousands of people enjoy events at WX this weekend
Tuesday, May 13, 2025
It’s been another hugely successful weekend of events at Wakefield Exchange (WX).
On Friday evening, the Leader of Wakefield Council officially opened the Jolly Boys Brewery, with the launch of a brand-new ale, as well as food and live music.
“I was really pleased to open the Jolly Boys Brewery, which is an exciting and unique addition to WX and the city centre.
“We’re proud to be supporting a local business. I know lots of people have already been loving The Jolly Boys’ ales since WX opened - so I hope they will enjoy that it’s being brewed right here at the venue. Why not come along to sample some very local produce!”
Cllr Denise Jeffery
Leader of Wakefield Council

The Jolly Boys’ Brewery was set up in 2014 by four friends. The working brewery will complement The Exchange Tap, WX’s in-house bar, which is also run by the brewery.
And on Saturday, over 3,000 people came through the doors for the ‘With Banners Held High’ event – a trade union festival which this year was honouring the 40th anniversary of the miners’ strike.
Whether it’s live music, quiz nights, cult movies, comedy, art, or dancing, there’s lots going on at WX over the next few weeks:
- Live at WX – Live music every Friday from 6pm
- Colin All Quizzers Quiz Night – Thursdays at 8pm
- Movies at WX – Godzilla 31 May
- Eurovision Viewing Party – 17 May
- WXcavation - 24 May to 1 June
- Comedy at WX – 24 May
- Artwalk – 28 May
- Our First Rodeo – 6 June
- A Most Excellent Sci-Fi Fest – 14 June
