Supporting our most vulnerable residents
Tuesday, July 16, 2024
The Energy Debt Fund scheme provides grants to help vulnerable and low-income households with problem energy debt. And the final deadline for applications is nearing.
“The cost-of-living crisis has affected many residents. With household bills on the rise, it has become a really tough time for many people in our district. We’re here for you, so please get in touch with us if this funding could help you.”
Cllr Maureen Cummings
Cabinet Member for Communities, Poverty and Health
This vital funding is there to help residents who are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and rising energy bills. It has provided vital support to enable households to turn on their heating to be warm and healthy in their homes and reduce the risk of fuel poverty.
Qualification is via a financial assessment by the Money Smart Team and if successful, grants are paid directly to residents’ energy suppliers. Only one Energy Debt Fund grant per household is allowed.
Grant funding can be used to clear energy arrears and support for ongoing payments may also be available for residents in some circumstances. Residents must be able to sustain the ongoing costs of their energy after support has been provided.
The funding is allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. The Household Support Funding for this scheme will be available until the end of September 2024 only.
Applications to apply for the Energy Debt Fund should be made without delay.
