Purston Park Memorial Garden

Wednesday, July 09, 2025

The ‘old rose garden’ area in Purston Park, Pontefract has been recreated into a memorial garden in memory of Cllr Graham Isherwood.

This was a collaborative effort to grass over old rose beds, lay down tons of new topsoil in other beds and plant up new herbaceous plants. It also involved creating a small new rose bed in a ‘nod to the past’.

A sapling and flower beds within a grassed area in a park. Behind the sapling, part of a memorial plaque can be seen.

The creation of the memorial garden included the planting of four new trees and the installation of new benches and a bin.

It was opened on Friday 20 June in a ceremony involving Counsellors, Friends Group members, sponsors, council employees and family and friends.
