Pontefract Park lake improvements complete

Monday, March 10, 2025

Work to repair the lake edge and footpath in Pontefract Park is now complete.

“We’re pleased that the repair work is now complete, ahead of schedule, and people can once again enjoy a stroll around the lake.

“Not only has this work improved safety around the lake but the essential maintenance will mean it can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.”

Cllr Jack Hemingway

Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change

The lake is now officially classified as a reservoir, which means additional work to manage the water body safely had to be carried out. Including adding a spillway to allow for excess water to be released in a safe and controlled way, and a focus on protecting the local environment.

Further landscaping works to level and seed some areas and do some tree planting will now take place.
