Pontefract hosts first Young Traders Market

Monday, June 09, 2025

Wakefield Council is hosting Pontefract’s first ever Young Traders Market on Saturday 21 June at Pontefract Outdoor Market - with a range of up-and-coming businesses led by young entrepreneurs from across the district.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the next generation of market traders and celebrate local entrepreneurship. We're proud to welcome young traders to Pontefract for the first time and encourage everyone to come down, support their local market, and discover something new."

Cllr Jack Hemingway

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth

The event is part of the national Young Traders Market programme, which supports and promotes traders aged 18-30. Visitors will be able to browse a diverse selection of stalls including handmade crafts, artisan foods, sustainable products and more, while also enjoying everything the historic market town of Pontefract has to offer.

The Young Traders Market will run from 10am to 4pm and takes place alongside the regular Saturday market. Visitors are encouraged to explore the full market offer and enjoy a day out in the town - from picking up local produce to visiting historic Pontefract Castle just a short walk away.

The event is free to attend and forms part of Wakefield District Markets' ongoing commitment to support emerging businesses and boost local high streets.
