Parents and carers urged to take advantage of child car seat checking events

Parents and carers in Wakefield are being urged to take advantage of free child car seat checks at events taking place across the district over the next few months.
“Every parent and carer wants to be sure that children are safe when travelling in a car. So why not come along to one of these completely free checks and get peace of mind that you are doing everything you can to ensure that.”

Alison Lowe OBE, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and Chair of the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board, said: “West Yorkshire Vision Zero is all about reducing road deaths and serious injuries to zero by 2040.
“We all have a role to play in that and ensuring that children are safe while travelling is a must for any parent or carer, so please take advantage of these free events.”
Janis James MBE, from Good Egg Safety, said: “We are proud to deliver this valuable service to the community.
“Child car seats play a critical role in preventing injuries, and our goal is to empower parents and carers with the knowledge and tools they need to keep their children safe on the road.”
The events have been organised by the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Partnership and in partnership with Good Egg Safety CIC.
The safety group reports that approximately two-thirds of the child seats they check across the UK are incorrectly fitted placing a child at risk of harm.
Having your child seat checked takes minutes and presents a unique opportunity for parents and carers to meet with experts and make sure their children are safe when travelling.
Good Egg safety advisors will assess the installation, fit and overall safety of the seats as well as offer guidance and adjustments where needed.
