No Smoking Day 2025
Wednesday, March 05, 2025
Wakefield Council and its partners are encouraging smokers across the district to take the first step towards a healthier future this No Smoking Day (12 March).
The theme for this year’s campaign is “Quit and Win”. It highlights the many benefits of quitting smoking, from improved health and wellbeing to saving money and protecting loved ones from second-hand smoke.
“If you use a stop smoking support service, you are three times more likely to succeed than if you try to quit alone. Every attempt to quit is a step in the right direction. We would love to see future generations raised in a smokefree district, and that change starts with days like No Smoking Day.”
Steve Turnbull, Director of Public Health and Communities

Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield, in partnership with Wakefield Council, is offering specialist stop smoking support, making it easier than ever for residents to access free advice and guidance.
The Quit Bus will be outside Wakefield Cathedral on Wednesday 12 March between 9am – 4pm. On board, people will have the opportunity to speak to expert advisors and find out about the tailored support available.
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health at any age. It reduces the risk of serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Research also shows that children are less likely to start smoking if their parents or caregivers are smoke-free.
