Mayor’s Charity Appeal 2025-26

The Mayor is supporting Wakefield District Sight Aid and Wakefield and District Downs Syndrome Support Group during her term of office and may share some of the money raised amongst a number of other local charities that she may visit during her mayoral year.

Wakefield District Sight Aid was formed in 1869 and supports anyone living with low vision, their families, carers and sight care professionals across the Wakefield district. Their vision is to aim for a world where people living with sight loss have access to the same opportunities and quality of life as fully sighted people.

The Wakefield and District Down’s Syndrome Support Group was formed in 2000 and is run by volunteer parents and carers of people with Down’s syndrome. The aim of the group is to provide a support network, information and fun activities for people with Down’s syndrome, their families and friends and raise awareness and promote social inclusion.
