New fostering scheme offers flexible way to support local children

Wakefield Council is inviting people across the district to make a difference to the life of a local child through a new fostering initiative called ‘Weekend with Us’.
The scheme offers a flexible way for people to support children and young people by welcoming them into their home for one weekend each month.
"Many people tell us they would love to support children and young people but feel they cannot commit to becoming a full-time foster carer. ‘Weekend with Us ‘offers a different way to help. By spending regular time with a child or young person, carers can provide stability, new experiences and trusted relationships that make a real difference."

The Council hopes the initiative will appeal to people who would like to help children but are unable to commit to full-time fostering. Participants will receive training, support and financial allowances, as well as ongoing guidance from the fostering team.
The scheme will support children and young people already living in foster care by providing regular opportunities to spend time with another trusted adult or family. Many people across Wakefield have the skills, experience and compassion to support children. Whether they're an empty nester, retired professional or working adult with time available at weekends, the Council would encourage people to find out more.
