Investing in your roads

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

Keeping our district moving is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’re investing over £20m into our roads over the next two years.

Cllr Matthew Morley, Cabinet Member for Planning and Highways

Councillor Matthew Morley

We work around the clock to keep your roads and footpaths safe and well maintained. Here are just some of the things we have been doing:

December 2025 - January 2026

Altofts

At Agincourt Drive and Hastings Court, we carried out full resurfacing of the roads. These repairs are crucial for maintaining safe and efficient roads.

We’ve also completed a resurfacing project at Bransdale Avenue.

Castleford

At Pine Close we replaced flag stones on the path that were damaged beyond repair, replacing them with a new surface - all part of our programme of maintaining our roads and pavements.

We repaired the benches at Booth Street – to make sure there’s a comfortable place for people to meet and sit. These smaller projects matter as they make a difference to the people who live in or visit our towns and communities.

Eastmoor

We have been making repairs and improvements to pavements across the district.

Including at Windhill View where our team resurfaced the footpath - helping pedestrians stay safe.

Hemsworth

We replaced a pedestrian guard rail at the bus station in Hemsworth.  This will help people stay safe while using the facilities, especially during wet or icy weather.

Horbury

We carried out resurfacing work at Tithe Barn Street, Horbury. As part of our commitment to keeping the district running smoothly.

Notton

New pipes and a manhole were installed at Bleakley Lane. Making sure our roads have safe, reliable drainage solutions improves safety and reduces the risk of future damage.

Ossett

Essential drainage maintenance work was carried out at Station Road. At this time of year, it’s more important than ever to keep our drainage systems working effectively.

We’ve also completed resurfacing work in Ossett, to improve the road conditions at Goring Park Avenue and Hollinthorpe Lane, in Hall Green. This work helps to keep our district moving for all road users.

Outwood

Resurfacing work took place at Royds Grove, as part of our ongoing programme of road works.

Pontefract

At Mill Lane, Streethouse, we resurfaced the footpath.

Ensuring safe travel for pedestrians is a priority for us right across the district. This work has helped keep the walkway open and secure for everyone.

We also completed a pavement resurfacing project at Rhodes Crescent. And carried out draining works at an address at Banks Avenue Pontefract and at West Mount Street.

Ryhill

Drainage work was carried out at property at Lafflands Lane - all part of our commitment to making improvements that make a difference and reduce the risk of future deterioration.

Wakefield

Our teams have been out resurfacing Cotton Street. And carrying out work to drop a kerb at Manygates Lane to improve accessibility.

We also excavated a gully on Denby Dale Road to improve drainage.

Whitwood

At Lumley Hill our team replaced a pedestrian guard rail. These smaller projects are important as they help people keep safe when using the area.

Thank you

To carry out this work, we must sometimes close roads and put temporary diversions in place. We always try to keep disruption to a minimum and carry out work as quickly as we can, without compromising on quality.

Thank you for bearing with us while we continue to improve your roads.

The table above shows just some of the work we’ve been doing. A detailed programme of work carried out across the district is also available.
