Household Support Fund Community Events
Tuesday, August 19, 2025
Councillor Daniel Wilton, Cabinet Member for Communities, and the Leader of the Council, Councillor Denise Jeffery, have been out in the community speaking to residents about our Household Support Fund.
This Government fund offers extra help with essentials like food, gas, and electricity.
As with previous funds, we have allocated most of the grant to supermarket vouchers, which we're providing to residents in receipt of Council Tax Support. These include families, pensioners, those in receipt of disability benefits and single households.
We have already issued supermarket vouchers to over 42,000 households and we'll be issuing further vouchers due to be issued in the winter months.
To help communicate this to residents, our expert revenue and benefits team joined the Councillors at Castleford Market to make sure people knew what support is out there.
Our team offered impartial advice and helped complete refunds for Council Tax, completed referral forms for people and provided aids and adaptations advice for a resident enquiring about support for within their home.
If you receive Council Tax Support, you're eligible for £140 in supermarket vouchers - no need to apply, they'll arrive automatically by post.
We’re also able to offer further support to households most in need who are struggling with the increased cost of living. Particularly those who may not have received other forms of cost of living support.
So far this year, 615 awards have been made to residents who have applied to the fund for help ranging from essential white goods, carpets, beds, food, and fuel.
Free advice events are coming to a community venue near you to help residents. If you would like us to come to your area, please reach out to us by email.
