South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce they will be continuing to provide specialist stop smoking support in Wakefield having recently successfully secured a new two-year contract with Wakefield Council. The service (Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield) is available for anyone over the age of 12 who live, receive education or work in the Wakefield District who would like support to quit smoking.
To mark the service launch, the Trust will be holding several events across Wakefield in September.
Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield offers free tailored treatment programmes along with specialist NHS advice and support to everyone who wants to quit smoking. Our friendly team of expert stop smoking advisors will help you find the best way to quit and will provide ongoing support during your journey. The service also offers a range of nicotine replacement therapy to help individuals reduce or stop smoking.
There are a range of ways to access our free support to help you on your path to quitting smoking. You can opt for face-to-face appointments, telephone support (with a translation service option available) and join one of our group sessions, which increases your quit successes as you get to meet other people in their quit journey. You can also use our online services where you will find a wealth of resources and guidance. Appointments are with a knowledgeable and experienced stop smoking advisor at flexible times during the day, evenings, and weekends. The choice is yours and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Sonia Brown, service manager of Yorkshire Smokefree Wakefield said: ‘‘Thinking about the benefits of quitting smoking is a powerful motivator. There is always a reason to break a cycle of addiction, whether it is for health reasons or financial. We provide up to 12 weeks of personalised support, which explores your reasons for stopping, helps you to avoid smoking, explore new routines, and check that your medication is working for you. Your tailored stop smoking plan may include up to 12 weeks of stop smoking medication to help beat your cravings. This support will help in identifying triggers, preventing relapse, and provide free regular carbon monoxide testing for up to 12 weeks.’’
‘‘It’s not uncommon for people to make multiple attempts before successfully quitting smoking. However, with our support chances of quitting are much higher. There are various reasons why people may start to smoke again, but do not worry, you can always come back to the service if you’ve accessed it before. Best of all, it’s completely free so why not give it another go.’’
“We’re really pleased that South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will be continuing to provide specialist stop smoking support in our district.
“You are three times more likely to stop with support, and our friendly and flexible Smokefree service has already helped thousands of people.
“Yorkshire Smokefree offer support tailored to your needs which includes telephone, online and face to face help. So why not join others in the district and make today the day to quit.”
