Fixing potholes

Essential road works are taking place this summer. These have been planned to take place, or start, in the summer to help keep disruption minimal.

Pontefract  

Northern Gas Networks and Network Rail are carrying out essential works on several roads in Pontefract. The one-way road closure on Park Lane Pontefract that started on 23 July is due to be lifted on the 16 August. 

Skinner Lane will be closed from 17 August to 10 September between De Lacy Way and the entrance to CrossFit while work is underway on the level crossing. Traffic signals will also be in place from the junction of Headlands Lane to the junction of Denwell Terrace from 8 to 29 August.  

Jubilee Way will be managed under a contraflow system from 2 to 27 September.  

There will also be a one-side road closure in place on Portland Avenue from 13 to 27 August.  

All roads will be reopened on 28 July, 7 and 18 August for race days only.  

Delays are likely, so please find an alternative route where possible. Diversions will be in place.  

 

Wakefield – Doncaster Road  

Northern Gas is carrying out work to replace a main gas pipe at Doncaster Road, Wakefield.  

The works take place between 24 July and 10 September 2024.  

The inbound lane of Doncaster Road between the junction of Neil Fox Way and  Agbrigg Road was closed from 24 July until 7 August with diversions in place.  This work has been completed.  

There is an outbound one lane closure in place for the mains replacement works to continue. This lane closure will be lifted on 22 August for the bank holiday weekend’s activities, and then put back in place from the 27 August. 

  

Horbury Bridge - Bridge Rd/New Road, Horbury/Middlestown. 

Yorkshire Water is carrying out improvement work on the A642 New Road, Horbury Bridge.  

The project is to reduce storm overflow discharged into the river Calder and reduce the occasions the main sewer is overwhelmed in periods of heavy/prolonged rainfall, to improve the water quality being discharged into the river. 

Work started on Monday 12 August at the A642 New Road between the old railway viaduct at Horbury Bridge and will progress toward the junctions of Green Lane and Wood Lane junction, with New Road, Middlestown and the Horticentre Garden Centre.  

Temporary traffic lights are in place, and it is hoped the projects will be completed by March 2025.

Wakefield Road, Ossett, 

Work is underway to resurface and fix potholes on the A638 in Wakefield Road between Broadway and Albert Drive in both directions. 

Temporary traffic lights are in place from now until the middle of October. This is likely to cause disruption. So please allow extra time for your journey  

Work is taking place in different sections, on:  

5 August – 13 August. From Goldsmith Avenue to Queens Drive.

14 August - 21 August. From Queens Drive to the M1

27 August – 27 September. Civils and UTC upgrade in and around the junction of Albert Drive. Closures on the entry and exit slips of Albert Drive will occur at times. Access Albert Drive from Goldsmith Avenue. 

30 September - 7 October. Inbound road closure from Albert Drive to Queens Drive. Diversions will be in place.

8 October – 11 October. Resurfacing of the Albert Drive junction. Diversions in place.

14 October – 15 October. Outbound Wakefield Road to the M1.
