Expand your knowledge and skills with a Wakefield Adult Education course
Tuesday, August 06, 2024
The Wakefield Adult Education Service’s latest course guide has been released, and residents are encouraged to take a look online and find a course to reach their goals.
“I would encourage everyone to take a look at the options available. Whether you are nineteen or ninety, don’t be afraid to chase your dreams or try something new.
“You will be supported at all stages of your journey. Our ‘Welcome to Learning’ events provide more information and advice - so you can be confident you are signing up to the course that best suits your goals.
“Courses are exclusively for those aged 19 and over and aim to help learners feel more confident in the classroom. Smaller class sizes and supportive learning environments are just some of the many reasons why Wakefield Adult Education is the perfect choice for people looking to learn something new.”
Cllr Michael Graham
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth
Wakefield is proud to be a UNESCO Global Learning City. Learning is a lifelong process and Wakefield Adult Education Service offers courses to anyone looking to achieve a qualification, learn a new skill or to try something different.
To make choosing the right course as simple as possible, their new course guide will be sent to households across the district from 19th August. In the meantime, it is available online, using the link below.

A full support service is available to all prospective learners, helping them choose the course that is right to help them achieve their goals.
By investing in learning, the Council aims to ensure the district remains future fit, providing the people of Wakefield with the skills necessary to meet future business demands. A skilled workforce will support new inward investment, which in turn will create new job opportunities, maintaining a secure, strong, local economy.
The new course guide offers a range of vocational and non-vocational courses. While most courses are free, anyone who is unemployed and seeking work or earning less than £25,000 per year is entitled to a fully funded course where fees are charged. Some residents are also entitled to help with travel costs, equipment and/or childcare.
Thanks to the expert support of tutors, 95.4% of learners achieved their learning goals in the 2022/23 academic year.
This programme is funded through the devolved Adult Education Budget for West Yorkshire. The Mayor of West Yorkshire and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority are investing £65 million a year to improve skills across West Yorkshire – particularly among those who need it most.
