Countdown to Christmas with free festive fun at the markets
Tuesday, November 26, 2024
Wakefield Council is spreading holiday cheer this season with an exciting line-up of free, festive activities for the whole family at its markets.
From 30 November to 21 December 2024, visit markets across the district for creative workshops, live entertainment, and holiday magic.
“These events are a great way for people to get into the festive spirit, with something for everyone to enjoy. And it’s all completely free.
“I would encourage everyone to come along, have some fun and enjoy the festivities. And why not do a spot of Christmas shopping while you’re there and support our fantastic traders."
Cllr Michael Graham
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth
A highlight of this year’s celebrations is Elf School 2024, a series of interactive workshops led by Santa’s Helpers. Running every Saturday, these sessions let children craft their way to Christmas, earning an official Elf School certificate each week. Activities range from making Christmas wreaths and snow slime to creating personalised baubles and Santa binoculars.
Local markets will also host live performances, carol singing from local schools, face painting, festive games, real-life reindeers, and even a dancing Christmas tree. Families can also take part in the festive colouring competition, with prizes awarded to winners at each location.
The events are part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improve local markets and support traders during the festive season. By attracting families to the markets, the initiative aims to drive footfall and encourage shoppers to discover unique gifts, treats, and essentials from local vendors.
Don’t miss the festive fun at markets in Castleford, Pontefract, Wakefield, Normanton, South Elmsall, and Ossett this Christmas.
