Council continues to support the high street by announcing new scheme for Hemsworth
Thursday, March 20, 2025
Wakefield Council has launched a new grant scheme, allowing businesses in Hemsworth to apply for funding towards the cost of improving their shop fronts.
“It’s really important our high streets are places people want to visit. We want more people to enjoy spending time and money in our towns. Not only because this helps local businesses thrive, but it also boosts the local economy.
“Hemsworth is a fantastic town, so I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure funding to offer these grants. I would urge anyone who thinks their business might be eligible to go online and apply. And I look forward to seeing the improvements this scheme will help deliver.”
Cllr Michael Graham
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth

Businesses can apply for a grant to cover up to 80% of the cost of improving the appearance of their shop fronts. The maximum grant available is £10,000. Schemes must be worth at least £6,250 overall to be eligible, as the minimum grant is £5,000.
The money can be spent on improvements to the outside of the premises, such as repairing or restoring façades, and adding new or improved canopies and signage.
The scheme is being funded by the Council’s Town Centre Regeneration Fund. Which aims to enhance town centres for residents and visitors. And attract additional investment to the district.
Grant schemes are also available in Ossett and Horbury. As well as targeted schemes on Sagar Street in Castleford, and around Cathedral Square in Wakefield city centre.
