Celebrate Bonfire Night safely
Monday, October 28, 2024
We are encouraging residents to enjoy bonfire night safely, by attending organised bonfire and firework displays.
“We want everyone to have a great time. Going to an organised event is a wonderful way of bringing together families and friends to share the sights and sounds of Bonfire Night.”
Cllr Hannah Appleyard
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport

Large scale events give adults and children the chance to enjoy a spectacular firework display in a safe place.
If people are hosting an event at home they’re encouraged to consider the impact of fireworks on their neighbours, animals, and vulnerable people. And to take precautions to lessen any risks by checking out fire service advice.
We are holding a free fireworks display at Thornes Park in Wakefield on Saturday 2 November 2024 from 4:30pm – 8pm.
This year’s Thornes Park Fireworks is part of Our Year Wakefield District 2024, a year-long programme of breathtaking spectacles, unique festivals and community-led activities that celebrate all the Wakefield district has to offer.
The evening will feature a low-impact firework display first, for those that don’t enjoy loud noises, before the spectacular main event a little later.
4:30pm - Gates open
6:00pm - Low-impact firework display
7:30pm - Main firework display
Entertainment will include a stage hosted by Rhubarb Radio, feature children’s entertainment, a DJ and saxophone set.
There will be fairground rides and street food available. This display will not feature a bonfire. Sparklers and personal fireworks are prohibited.
The event will be held in partnership with the Friends of Clarence, Holmfield and Thornes Parks.
