Cabinet to consider new technology enabled care service

Tuesday, March 10, 2026

Wakefield Council’s Cabinet is expected to give the green light to plans for new Technology Enabled Care (TEC) service.

The proposal sets out how the Council will make sure there is no gap in support for people who currently use Care Link as part of a care plan. This applies to residents who are eligible for support under the Care Act,  with a new provider would be in place by 1 October 2026.

“We know how important TEC services are for residents who rely on it every day. Our priority is to make sure there is no break in support for those with a care plan. And ensure a smooth transition, giving our residents the reassurance that help is always there when it’s needed.”

Securing a new provider will ensure those eligible continue to receive reliable emergency alarm and responder support. The new contract will also allow the Council to explore opportunities for digital innovation and more modern, technology-enabled approaches over time.

Vico Homes currently provide a telecare service called Care Link to residents who have an assessed need as part of an agreed care plan with the Council. Vico Homes plan to close this service at the end of September 2026.

The proposal will go to Cabinet on 17 March 2026. If approved, procurement activity would commence immediately, with the new TEC service in place to no later than 1 October 2026. In the meantime, we continue to work closely with Vico Home until the new service is in place.
