Roadworks, closures, and highway licensing

All utility companies are required to prioritise their work across the Wakefield District highway network.

Our Streetworks Team monitors and coordinates activities on the public highway. They work closely with utility providers, subcontractors, bus operators, and other stakeholders who have an interest in the local road network.

Our aim is to minimise disruption wherever possible while identifying opportunities to improve the area for everyone.

Permit Scheme for Street Works

We operate a permit scheme to manage street works and road-related activities across the highway network. This includes work on installed apparatus, maintenance of existing assets, and improvements to road surfaces.

The scheme helps plan and coordinate work more effectively, reducing disruption for road users and pedestrians while supporting a better, safer network.

Skips and Scaffolding

Builders’ skips and scaffolding are not covered by the permit scheme. They require a separate licence or permit as outlined.

You can also view live street work information for the district on one.network.
