Overview

A £19m bid to the Levelling Up Fund Round 2 for Knottingley has been unsuccessful.

We have been working with local communities on our Knottingley bids and we will keep working together to achieve our goals.

The bid aimed to encourage residents to take part in retail and leisure activities by:

  • revitalising the town centre
  • building new leisure facilities
  • enhancing pedestrian and cycle routes

Projects

Connectivity and Hill Top

New features:

  • new coordinated facades for the main parade of shops
  • new pedestrianised area along the length of the high street
  • tree planting along the high street
  • new bike racks
  • new seating
  • new free car park to the rear
  • widened footpaths designated cycle paths
  • new way-finding signs
  • step-free links between key locations

Impact:

  • improvement of the built environment and quality of the experience for shoppers

Knottingley Active and Recreational Zone

Features:

  • new leisure centre with outdoor facilities for all ages, including natural play areas and spaces for seating and picnics
  • improved facade for Kellingley Club and upgraded car park on Kellingley Club grounds to help improve the appeal of the area

Impact:

  • the proposed leisure offer was identified as a priority through local consultation
  • indoor and outdoor facilities offer an active space for young people
