Planning enforcement plan

Planning enforcement is a vital part of the planning process which can be complex because the Town and Country Planning Act seeks to strike a balance between the freedom of owners to use or alter their property as they wish, with the need to safeguard the amenities of an area against significant and irreparable harm. Planning enforcement activities should therefore be carried out in an equitable, efficient, and consistent manner.

The Planning Enforcement Plan sets the framework how the council will respond and manage service requests that are submitted to the service for consideration.

The plan explains how the service will record and progress reported breaches of planning control and undertake investigations. The plan provides clear standards for the service and ensures a consistent approach, it offers guidance about the information that will be needed to report, record, progress and investigate a suspected planning breach.
