Ask for Angela
Feeling threatened or unsafe? On a date that isn’t working out? Or Is someone making you uncomfortable?
Ask for Angela helps to keep you safe when out in the district. Whether you are on a night out, on a first date or meeting friends, we want you to have peace of mind that Angela has your back.
Angela is a fictional member of staff and wanting to speak to her is a signal that someone requires assistance.
Anyone, regardless of their gender, is encouraged to use the phrase in Wakefield.
Staff will then know you want discreet help and can assist you without fuss for example by:
- calling and helping you to a taxi
- providing a safe space
- reuniting you with a friend
- calling venue security and/or the police if needed and safe to do so
As a Community Safety Partnership, we’ve made sure that staff at participating venues are trained to help you out of your situation. They will do this without judgement, so you can continue to enjoy your time and most importantly stay safe.
So, if you need help to get out of your situation, just ask.
You can tell if a venue is part of the scheme by looking out for this sticker in the window as you enter.
Use the map on this page to see the venues taking part.

Wakefield Council, as part of the Community Safety Partnership, is running the initiative in many of the district’s bars, pubs, nightclubs, and restaurants. We also plan to expand the scheme into cinemas and café’s.
