Safe Point
Our Safe Point helps residents and visitors enjoying Wakefield’s nightlife. It’s a friendly space where you can get support if things don’t go to plan on your night out.
The mobile unit is out on Westgate on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays between 10:30pm - 5:30am.
The mobile units are out on Westgate (Wakefield) and Ropergate (Pontefract) on Fridays and Saturday nights between 10:30pm - 5:30am. They are also there at the same times on Sunday nights when it's a Bank Holiday weekend. And you'll find them there on special nights such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve too.
The Safe Points are your first port of call for welfare and medical issues. If you need help, they offer a safe and welcoming space to:
- get medical care if you feel unwell or are injured
- talk to someone if you feel worried or scared
- charge your phone
You can spot our Safe Point staff by their green uniforms.
Safe Point is a joint initiative between the Council and partners, including the ambulance service, police and local venues. The aim is to improve safety at night time, reduce the pressure on emergency services and support businesses.
Safe Point also supports existing safety measures which are already in place. These include:
- Ask for Angela
- Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs)
- Night Marshals
- the Anti-Social Behaviour Task Force and more visible police patrols on our streets
