Safe Point
Our Safe Points help residents and visitors out enjoying nightlife in Wakefield city centre and Pontefract. They provide a safe and friendly space where you can get support if things don’t go to plan on your night out.
You can find the mobile units on Westgate (Wakefield) and Beastfair (Pontefract). They are there on Fridays and Saturdays between 10:30pm - 5:30am. And at the same times on Sunday nights when it's a Bank Holiday weekend. You'll also find them there on special nights such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve too.
The Safe Points are your first port of call for welfare and medical issues. If you need help, they offer a safe and welcoming space to:
- get medical care if you feel unwell or are injured
- talk to someone if you feel worried or scared
- charge your phone
You can spot our Safe Point staff by their green uniforms.
Safe Point is a joint initiative between the Council and partners. It includes the ambulance service, police and local venues. The aim is to improve safety at night time, reduce the pressure on emergency services and support businesses.
Safe Point also supports existing safety measures which are already in place. These include:
- Ask for Angela
- Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs)
- Night Marshals
- the Anti-Social Behaviour Task Force and more visible police patrols on our streets.
