Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Wakefield
Better Knowledge. Better Decisions. Better Lives.
We are the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Wakefield. A partnership between Wakefield Council, local universities, and community groups. We're funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Our goal is to understand what really affects people’s health and wellbeing in Wakefield. We will use that knowledge to help create a fairer, healthier district for everyone.
We do this by:
- building skills – training staff and residents to gather and understand evidence
- listening to local voices – combining research with real stories and lived experience
- driving smarter decisions – using insight to shape policies and services
HDRC Wakefield is a five-year project, but everything we do is designed to leave a lasting legacy. So that everyone in Wakefield can live a healthy life, no matter who they are or where they live.
Local people will lead the way
We want to listen to people across Wakefield. We want to hear your stories, your ideas, and your views about what needs to change.
You don’t need to be an expert. If you live here, your voice matters.
Get involved
HDRC Wakefield is a partnership between Wakefield Council, local universities, and community groups, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Together, we want to understand what’s really going on - and do something about it.
You can:
- join in local events and conversations
- help collect stories and experiences
- become a community researcher or local journalist
- share your ideas about how to make Wakefield a fairer, healthier place to live
Why this matters
At HDRC Wakefield, we’re looking at how everyday things affect people's lives. Things like housing, transport, education and jobs.
We want to understand these issues better. So local decisions can be fairer and more effective. That’s why we’re working with communities and partners to find out what makes a difference.
We’ll share what we learn in simple, useful ways. To help support better choices and outcomes for everyone in Wakefield. Wherever they live, and whatever their situation.
