Election of a Town Councillor 

For the Normanton and Altofts Town Council - North and West Ward 

 

An election is to be held of ONE Town Councillor for the NORMANTON AND ALTOFTS TOWN COUNCIL - NORTH AND WEST WARD.

1. Forms of nomination paper are available from the Returning Officer, Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ, who will at the request of any elector for the said electoral area, prepare for signature a nomination paper.

2. Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ on any normal working day during office hours from the date of this notice, but not later than 4pm on Friday, 12 June 2026. The Electoral Services Office is open from 8:30am – 5.00pm (Monday-Thursday) and 8:30am – 4:30pm (Fridays).

3. If an election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

4. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ, by Tuesday, 23 June 2026. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

5. New applications to vote by post and requests to cancel or change an existing postal or proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services Office, Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ by 5pm on Wednesday, 24 June 2026 if they are to be effective for this election. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.

6. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ by 5pm on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate.

7. New applications to vote by proxy except on the grounds of a medical or work emergency must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services Office, Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ by 5pm on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, if they are to be effective for this election. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.

8. Applications to vote by proxy on the grounds of a medical or work emergency must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Electoral Services Office, Electoral Services Office, Wakefield Town Hall, Wood Street, Wakefield, WF1 2HQ by 5pm on Thursday, 9 July 2026 if they are to be effective for this election.
