Help with food

Are you struggling to provide food for yourself or your family? Help is available. To access support from a food bank or an emergency food parcel you must be referred.

This service should be for emergencies only. There is support available to help you long term. Including to help increase money and to reduce your debts and household bills.

You can find the support available on our money advice page (www.wakefield.gov.uk/money). You may wish to use the benefits calculator to see if you're entitled to more financial support. Or visit your local help at the hub venue (https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support/help-at-the-hub/)

Who can make a referral for emergency food support?

Our local partners can help to improve your situation and make a referral for emergency food support. If you need help with food, contact one of the following:

  • a support worker from Social Services
  • Wakefield District Housing and Cash Wise (for WDH tenants)
  • The Department for Work and Pensions
  • through our customer contact centre, call 0345 8 506 506

You can make a self-referral online for emergency support. The Local Welfare Provision page (https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/housing/information-for-tenants/need-help-with-your-rent/local-welfare-provision/)  has an online form. This fund is for vulnerable people living in our district in times of emergency or crisis.
