Crisis and Resilience Fund
The government has provided funding to support people who are in financial difficulty.
The new fund is called the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It is intended to help people cope with a sudden, unexpected expense or loss of income, and also help build longer term financial resilience. This funding has replaced the current Household Support Fund, which ended on 31 March 2026.
Crisis payments aim to:
- support low-income residents who are experiencing a sudden financial shock - this includes a loss of income or unexpected essential expense
- prevent people from entering crisis - the fund provides timely support to manage pressures and maintain control
- prevent crises from growing
You can apply for a Crisis payment if you are:
- a resident in the Wakefield District and have a low income
- have limited accessible funds
- have no savings or assets that could reasonably meet the need.
The fund covers Housing Payment which replaces Discretionary Housing Payments.
Applications can be made by residents, or by representatives acting with the resident’s consent.
