Burials can still go ahead without any restrictions.

We operate 19 cemeteries across the district, you can find the location and address of each using our listed map here.

Funeral at a cemetery

Your funeral director will fill in an interment notice with you when you book the burial and this will have the details of the grave in advance so that the grave can be prepared.

There are no longer any restrictions as to the number of people who can attend a burial.

On the day you will be met by a representative of the Council before the service is conducted by your chosen minister or funeral director.

Public consultation survey

This survey relates to the pilot closure of the pedestrian gate access from Woodcock Street, Wakefield into Wakefield (Sugar Lane) cemetery. Due to community concerns of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, the Woodcock Street gate is to be closed for a pilot period running from 5 February 2024 to 8 April 2024.

The public are invited to provide comments on the positive or negative impact arising from the closure of the gate. The survey information will be used to help inform whether the gate will be closed for a longer period.

No personal information will be collected during the course of the survey and individual responses will be deleted after the survey is complete. This consultation will run from 29 January 2024 until 8 April 2024.
