Items that should be taken to the HWRC include:
- batteries/lead acid batteries
- large electricals (wires, cables and anything with a plug, battery or charger)
- small electricals
- vapes
- fridges and freezers
- light bulbs/fluorescent tubes
- mobile phones and chargers
- printer cartridges
- carton packaging
- cooking oil
- hand tools
- paint
- carpets
- textiles (clothes and shoes)
- furniture
- hard plastics (e.g. toys/etc.)
- brick and rubble (quantity limits apply)
- wood and timber
- scrap metal
- tyres
- used engine oil
- gas bottles
- mattresses
- bed bases
- garden waste
- TVs/monitors
Please separate your rubbish at home before visiting the HWRC, to help us recycle more and make your visit quicker. If you forget to sort your rubbish at home you'll be encouraged to do so at the HWRC. If needed, staff will be available to help you in the sorting area.
You can still use bags and boxes to bring recyclables like garden waste, wood, clothing and rubble to the HWRC - just empty the contents into the skips and banks when you get there and take your bags home.
Keep recyclables separate from non-recyclable rubbish like pet bedding and pet waste, vacuum cleaner contents, nappies and food waste, which can still be brought in bags.
Small electricals, including vapes and mobile phones, can also be taken to our WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recycling sites, listed here.
Please read the following information and guidance before you visit:
Bring your permit or proof of address, permits will not be issued at HWRCs please apply online or via the contact centre 0345 8 506 506.
Trailers smaller than (6ft x 4ft) on a domestic car can come in with a residential permit.
Trailers larger than (6ft x 4ft) but no larger than (8ft x 6ft) on a domestic car will need a commercial vehicle permit.
Trailers of any size on a commercial type vehicle such as a van, pickup or SUV will need a commercial vehicle permit.
The maximum size trailer permitted on site is 8ft x 6ft with a bed load of no more than 3 metres. Larger trailers will not be allowed on site.
