About the proposed policy

The proposed Post 16 Transport Policy aims to:

  • set out what transport support may be available
  • help young people and families understand their options
  • make sure we support learners with significant or specific needs

Transport support for learners with SEND

We will support eligible young people aged 16 and over with SEND to travel to college.

However, parents and carers remain responsible for ensuring their child attends college. Some parents will have to play a more active role in arranging their child's transport. This will be in place of a Local Authority-arranged taxi or minibus.

Independent Travel Training

We will encourage young people to undertake a programme of Independent Travel Training. This helps learners develop the skills and confidence to travel independently.
