Make Words Count

WordFest is a month-long festival celebrating words - encouraging young people and families to explore their creativity. Following the impact of the coronavirus, this brand new community-based festival has been redefined, blending digital activities, small scale participatory events and community library activities and experiences, all promoting the message: 'Make Words Count'.

  • Weekly wordlab challenges – a series of 4 different challenges to the public which we are featuring online via social media and also in libraries. We are dressing them with pull up banners and bunting to be our ‘wordlabs’. we will also be doing a word of the day feature and links to articles about words on our blog
  • Weekly Makaton challenge – we are doing a story time every week and using it to get people to learn some Makaton signs to improve early literacy. There will be 4 videos, one each week plus downloadable story and rhyme sheets and certificates
  • PDF brochure of whole festival to download
  • Digital content from our creative commissions including 3x hour long plays from theatre royal filmed at Airedale Library and a link to a digital twine story which is a 'create your own adventure' style story
  • Fringe event pages including launch of British Library exhibition on women’s rights and a youth litfest being organised by local young people
