Well Women Centre - statement
Friday, February 06, 2026
Wakefield Council is working with partners to support clients of an independent charity.
The Well Women Centre, in Wakefield, that delivers some services on behalf of The Council, has confirmed it has entered insolvency and is now working with an advisor to explore its next steps.
The charity recently made partners aware that it was facing serious financial difficulties.
“This situation has developed very quickly, and the Council understands how worrying this may feel for the women they support.
"Our top priority is those affected at this time. They are being contacted and offered alternative services to help and support.”
Cllr Michelle Collins
Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health
As the Council commissions services from the Centre, it is working closely with NHS partners, Nova and the charity and make sure there will be no gap in support for women currently accessing the service.
Cllr Collins added: “We recognise the huge contribution the Centre has made to women’s wellbeing across our district over many years. And also acknowledge the dedication of the staff and volunteers who have supported women throughout this time.”
Jane Walton, spokesperson from the Well Women Centre, said: “Wakefield Council and our partners have been consistently supportive throughout our many years of working together, including during these recent financial challenges. We are deeply grateful for the genuine efforts made to help us explore options, and for their continued commitment to ensuring the women we support still have somewhere safe to turn.”
