Welcoming Stanley’s new play area
Wednesday, June 24, 2026
Summer is just around the corner, and there is something new to enjoy in Stanley. Baker Lane now has a bright and exciting play area for local families.
The park has had a major makeover, thanks to a £99,000 investment from Wakefield Council. Old equipment has been replaced, creating a larger space for children to play, explore and have fun.
There is plenty to enjoy with more than 30 new features added, along with new benches and bins. The space, designed for children aged 2 to 14, supports active play, builds confidence, and sparks imagination.
Younger children will love the new fire truck play unit. It offers traditional favourites like climbing and sliding, with lots of hands-on fun. Many of the elements are close to the ground, making it easy for little ones to use. Older children can head to the impressive four-tower play unit. This larger structure offers more challenge and adventure.
Getting to the play area is now easier too. A new gently sloped path links the play space to the main park route. This makes it simple and comfortable for visitors to arrive and move around. There is also plenty of open space between the equipment so children can play freely.
The new play items offer something for everyone. The large nest swing is perfect for sitting or lying down and enjoying the ride. Springers are easy to use, especially for younger children and those with physical disabilities. Play panels have also been added, giving more ways for children to interact and have fun together.
Next on the Council’s list for a major upgrade is the Acacia Walk play area in Knottingley.
