Monday, October 05, 2026

Thousands of people turned out yesterday (Sunday 4 October) to welcome Wakefield Trinity home as the new Super League Champions.

Wakefield Trinity secured a thrilling 23-10 victory over Warrington Wolves at the Super League Grand Final (3 October).

Wakefield came to a halt as people lined the streets to cheer the team as they made their way through the city in an open top bus. The parade ended outside the Town Hall, where the team were greeted by the Mayor of Wakefield and the Leader of Wakefield Council, Cllr Karl Johnson. Alongside hundreds of fans gathered on Wood Street.

“The 2026 Wakefield Trinity team now stands alongside the legends of our past. They created history this weekend not just for the club but also for our city.

“Our thanks again to Matt Ellis and the whole Ellis family for the investment and commitment they have given to the club since they took over in 2023. And to Daryl Powell who has led the club’s climb from the Championship to Grand Final winners.

“To see our city come to life on Sunday to welcome the boys home was incredible. The streets were packed and I’d like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate with us. We are so proud of the team, and I have no doubt this is the start of even greater things.”
