Wakefield Exchange brings the magic of Christmas to Wakefield this December
Tuesday, December 09, 2025
Wakefield Exchange (WX) is bringing the festive period to life throughout December with a packed programme of festive events for all ages.
From enchanting walkabout characters and joyful choir performances to family-friendly cinema screenings and creative workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun or a night out with a festive twist, WX is the place to be this Christmas.”
Cllr Hannah Appleyard
Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport
The Shed at WX will be transformed into the ultimate festive experience, where families can enjoy craft activities, a letter-to-Santa writing station, festive movies, and more throughout the month.
There will be plenty of free drop-in events for the whole family, including the return of the ever-popular Toddler Disco (19 December) and Kids Disco (20 December). Visitors can also enjoy a host of other free activities such as craft workshops, festive face painting, pop-up choirs, and meet a variety of Christmas characters, including the mischievous Elf on the Shelf.
For those looking for something extra special, WX is hosting bookable festive shows. Pantomime Dick Whittington is on Friday 12 December with a heartwarming, high-energy show for all the family. Followed by A Town Called Christmas on Monday 15 December, a brand-new show from The Red Ladder Theatre Company aimed at children aged 3+ and their grown-ups.
The festive fun doesn’t stop there; adults can join in too. Enjoy the Friday before Christmas (19 December) with a DJ and live trumpet for extra sparkle. Then, dance the night away at the Christmas Ceili (20 December), a traditional Celtic group dance party complete with a Ceili caller.
All this and more is happening at WX this December. Discover more information at Festive Fun at WX | Wakefield Exchange
