Wakefield Trinity rugby stars are teaming up with older supporters to encourage residents to stay strong, stay steady and stay in the game.

Wakefield Council is joining forces with the club during Falls Prevention Awareness Week 2026 (21-25 September) to launch a new campaign encouraging older adults to take action to reduce their risk of falls.

“Wakefield Trinity are having a very strong 2026 Super League season. We’re pleased to be teaming up with them to support these important falls prevention campaign.

“Staying fit and healthy is so vital for our wellbeing. The campaign is packed with tips on what we can do to stay as healthy as possible and help reduce the risk of falls.”

The campaign, titled "Trinity Never Trips", carries the message "Stay Strong. Stay Steady. Stay in the Game." Players Jayden Myers and Charlie Abraham appear in a series of humorous Facebook videos to help people get and stay active and well.

The campaign highlights that falls are not an inevitable part of ageing. Most falls can be prevented, and staying physically active is one of the most effective ways for people to maintain their independence, confidence and wellbeing.

Jack Pemberton of Wakefield Trinity Foundation said: "Falls can have a significant impact on people's confidence, independence and quality of life, but many falls can be prevented. Through our partnership with Wakefield Council, we want to show that taking action doesn't have to be complicated.

“By improving strength and balance, staying active and making small changes at home, people can reduce their risk and continue doing the things they enjoy. The Trinity Never Trips campaign uses humour and familiar faces to share important messages in an engaging and memorable way."

This year's national awareness week theme, "From Awareness to Action", focuses on empowering older adults to make simple changes that can significantly reduce their risk of falling. In support of the campaign, a series of community workshops "Six Steps to Preventing Falls and Understanding Frailty" will provide practical advice for local residents.

A key feature of the campaign will be a series of short videos featuring Wakefield Trinity players alongside older Trinity supporters. Using rugby humour the videos reverse expectations by showing older fans passing on valuable life lessons to the players while sharing practical falls prevention advice.

The videos will cover six important falls prevention messages:

• How to reduce your risk of falling

• Improving strength and balance

• Fall-proofing your home

• Staying safe when out and about

• Keeping active for a balanced life

• Understanding that falls are preventable and not a normal part of ageing.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among older residents, family members and carers about the simple steps that can help people remain active, independent and connected to their communities.

Residents will be encouraged to attend community workshops. For more information visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/futureproof for support, advice, activities and events.

The campaign will run across social media using the hashtags:
